O, Give Thanks

O, Give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good. His mercies endure forever. (1 Chronicles 16:34)
“Whisper a prayer in the morning . . .” begins a song our children and grandchildren have sung for 50 years or more and probably it is on DVDs they listen to in today’s information age.
How very blue, blue, blue the sky was that morning! Wow! Only God could do that! How I praised Him then! I even praise Him for a thankful heart, for He created me so!
It doesn’t have to be a big thing we thank Him for, as life is made up of the small things. God craves our communication even as we crave a word from our children, grandchildren and friends.
It grieves me that many times I begin the day the first hour or so preparing for work and until I’m in the car my attention is on myself or the sermon I’m hearing on the radio. But then, outside, He gets my attention and praises.
Why can’t I begin the day on my knees? Well, OK, they are getting old and arthritic - you get the picture, but I’ve wanted to have a little extra time in the mornings that way for a long time. Feet of clay being what they are, I instead listen to a sermon before arising and then rush to my destination.
That is why we pray without ceasing throughout the day as we praise the Author and Finisher of our faith! It doesn’t have to be a formal platitude, but an emission from the heart of His own children.
